, but also a pain. Without granting permissions, most apps can’t do much. But with most apps asking for too many permissions, every app on your phone is a potential privacy risk.

What happens if you want to use an app but don’t want to grant it a permission? You can toggle it on and off each time you use it, but that gets old.

Thankfully, there’s a great new solution to this problem. It’s called Bouncer.

Download: Bouncer for Android ($1)

Grant Temporary Permission to Apps With Bouncer

Bouncer is a simple Android app, currently in beta, that allows you to grant temporary permissions to Android apps.

When you start using it, you’ll need to enable an accessibility service for Bouncer to do its job. In case this sounds shady, Bouncer explains on its app page that it requests no permissions; it doesn’t even have permission to access the internet.

Bouncer’s power comes in automatically toggling permissions. When an app asks for a permission and you grant it, Bouncer will show a notification asking if you want to revoke it later.

Choose Keep to leave the permission enabled. If you choose Remove, Bouncer will automatically open the app’s settings after you close it and revoke the permission. Schedule lets you do the same but with a delay.

You can also use Bouncer to browse through the sensitive permissions that apps on your device use

. Scroll through All apps or browse by permission like Camera or Location.

Tap an app to see the permissions you’ve granted it. If you select a permission, Bouncer will ask if you’d like to remove it. Confirm this, and it will automate the process right in front of you.

Hit the Settings gear in Bouncer to adjust a few options. You can choose how long to wait by default before the app pulls a permission, lock the notification so you don’t miss it, and choose whether to remember your choices for the next time.

Bouncer gives you more control over permissions. Now you can keep apps installed and deny all permissions, grant them while you use it, and auto-remove them right after. It’s a good solution for social media apps.

to take control of the process for themselves, with no need to go through a label or pay to use a third-party service.

Spotify for Artists

While most of us exclusively use Spotify to stream music, artists use Spotify in a different way. With the exception of Taylor Swift and a few others, artists want their music on the platform so that they can make money every time someone plays one of their songs.

This is why Spotify for Artists exists, as it enables the streaming music service to deal with artists directly. And while the popular artists have record labels doing the donkey work, independent artists are expected to do everything themselves.

Which, thanks to Spotify’s new initiative, even includes uploading their own music.

Upload Your Own Music

On the Spotify for Artists Blog, the streaming service explains how the option for artists to upload their own music has been the most requested feature. So, in collaboration with a handful of artists and labels, Spotify has developed the necessary tools.

The option to upload your own music is currently in betam and therefore limited to a few hundred U.S. artists. These include Noname, Michael Brun, VIAA, and Hot Shade. However, Spotify promises to expand the invite to more artists and labels in the future.

This means that, if you yourself are an indie artists looking to start streaming, you could one day have your music available to play on Spotify. The music streaming service suggests interested parties join the Spotify for Artists mailing list.

A Win-Win for All Concerned

This is a win-win for all concerned. Spotify gets more music on its service, and with minimal effort on its part, and the indie artists get a new platform to build a following, and the potential to make some money in the process.

If you’re not an ambitious indie artist, and just want to stream music all day, every day, check out our unofficial guide to Spotify

How to Remove or Retract a Bid on eBay

How to Remove or Retract a Bid on eBay

eBay can be an addictive habit. You start out by looking for a new lightbulb, and before you know it you’ve put in bids worth a couple of hundred dollars on everything from sports memorabilia to dog toys.

Sure, it feels great at the time. But after a few hours, when the reality sets in, you realize a signed baseball cap really isn’t worth $180 of your hard-earned cash.

But don’t panic, you don’t need to cancel your eBay account. In some circumstances, you can remove and retract your bid!

Note: If the auction has finished, you’re too late. Unless the item is defective or not as described, your ability to return the item and get a refund on eBay

lies solely in the hands of the seller.

How to Remove or Retract a Bid on eBay

If you want to retract your bid on eBay, you need to act quickly. If there are more than 12 hours left in the auction, you can retract your bid without providing a reason.

If the 12-hour deadline has passed and you still want to remove your bid, you need to fall into one of three criteria.

  • You accidentally bid an incorrect amount. For example, you entered $700 rather than $70 when bidding for an item.
  • The seller changes the product description or photographs.
  • You cannot reach the seller during the auction, such as if you get an email bounce back or the telephone number is wrong.

If you don’t fall into one of the three categories, you can still retract your most recent bid. To withdraw older bids, contact the seller.

To retract a bid on an eBay item: Go to My eBay > Settings > Bids/Offers. Select the bid you want to cancel and choose the reason for your retraction from the dropdown menu.

How to Return an Item on eBay

How to Return an Item on eBay

Sometimes an eBay purchase goes wrong. Maybe the goods weren’t as described by the seller, or the product arrived damaged. In that case, you need to apply for a refund.

Thankfully, even though eBay is a marketplace predominately driven by individuals, the site’s refund process is robust. You shouldn’t encounter any difficulties in getting your money back.

If you need to return an item on eBay, keep reading. Here’s the full eBay refund process explained.

Are You Eligible for an eBay Refund?

You are not automatically eligible for a refund if you decide you simply don’t like the product you bought.

If you have changed your mind about a purchase, you can still approach the seller and ask about a rebate. Most of the well-established, high reputation sellers will be open to your request, but someone who’s just sold a random item they wanted to get rid of might not be so willing.

Otherwise, check out the eBay Money Back Guarantee Policy to see if you’re eligible for a proper refund.

How to Return an Item on eBay

If your product is damaged, faulty, or not as expected, you are eligible for a refund. You are covered by the eBay Money Back Guarantee Policy, even if the seller states they do not accept returns. The Guarantee states that the seller has three days to resolve the issue.

If no resolution is found, eBay will take control of the matter. You and the seller will both be asked to provide details of the case, and a decision will be reached in 48 hours.

To start the returns process, follow the instructions below:

  1. Log into your eBay account.
  2. Go to My eBay > Purchase History.
  3. Click on Return this item.
  4. Select your reason for the return from the drop-down menu.
  5. Upload pictures if necessary.
  6. Hit Send.

You will get a notification when the seller responds. After the seller receives the returned item, they have two days to issue a refund.

How to Replay a Snapchat

How to Replay a Snapchat

Snapchat made a name for itself thanks to its non-shareable, disappearing images and videos. To this day, it’s still very difficult to grab a screenshot of a Snapchat. There are workarounds, but if Snapchat catches you, your account could be suspended or banned.

However, just because you can’t indefinitely keep the snaps you receive doesn’t mean there aren’t some ways to enjoy the content for a second time. That’s right—it’s possible to replay a Snapchat!

How to Replay a Snapchat

Before we go any further, make sure you’re using Snapchat version 9.29.3.0 or later. If you’re running an older version, the feature will not be available to you.

Also, note that you can no longer buy Snapchat replays. Snapchat has stopped selling them. If you have some unused purchased replays, they are still valid.

Once you’ve confirmed that you’re using the newest version of the app, just follow the simple step-by-step instructions below to replay snaps you have received.

  1. Make sure you’ve viewed the snap at least once. You won’t see the replay option if you haven’t.
  2. When you have watched the snap once, stay in the inbox. If you leave the inbox, you will not be able to access the replays.
  3. Tap and hold on the snap you want to replay.
  4. The snap icon will fill up.
  5. Select Tap to view to watch the snap for a second time.

The good news is that Snapchat no longer limits you to one replay per day; you can watch all the snaps you receive twice.

It’s also important to know that if the person sent you a private chat, they will know you have replayed it; it is impossible to replay snaps secretly.

Twitter Cripples Third-Party Apps Like Tweetbot and Twitterific

Twitter is no longer allowing developers to access its old APIs. This means that some key features of third-party Twitter apps such as Tweetbot, Twitterific, Talon, and Tweetings

no longer work. Which has rather annoyed the people using those apps for obvious reasons.

A Longstanding Love-Hate Relationship

For many years, Twitter has enjoyed endured a love/hate relationship with third-party apps. A lot of Twitter’s best features were born on these apps, but Twitter would really rather they didn’t exist.

Everyone who uses a third-party Twitter app isn’t using Twitter’s own apps. Which means Twitter loses control over their experience, which just won’t do for a company already struggling to make ends meet. And so Twitter has now taken the nuclear option.

Twitter Makes Third-Party Apps Worse

Twitter has rescinded access to the old APIs, which means third-party apps can no longer deliver push notifications or automatically refresh timelines. The result is broken apps, with the likes of Tweetbot and Twitterific having to disable some of their core features.

Twitter has defended its actions, with Rob Johnson, the Senior Director of Data Enterprise Solutions, saying this is the company “removing support for some outdated developer tools” in order to “deliver the best Twitter for you”.

Essentially, Twitter wants to focus on servicing its own apps, with these third-party apps a distraction. Developers can switch to using Twitter’s Account Activity API, but doing so isn’t cheap, which is why so many have held back from switching so far.

Twitter Gave Developers Ample Warning

No one, including the developers of the third-party apps affected and their users, should be surprised by any of this. Twitter has been planning this move for a long time, and developers have known Twitter was planning to shut down the old APIs since April 2018.

However, none of this actually matters when it comes down to it. Developers have seen their ability to keep their apps working pulled out from under them, and users are discovering that most third-party Twitter apps

so that you don’t have to comb through it in desperation. Fortunately, if your inbox is a mess, Gmail comes with an excellent search box that makes finding lost emails easier.

But did you know that there is another little-known method for keeping track of important emails? Each email in the Gmail inbox has a unique message ID, and this specific identification number is the fingerprint of each email.

How to Identify an Email’s Message ID in Gmail

The message ID is hidden in the background and you have to dig through the email header to find it. But the message ID is an important tracking tool and can also help you keep a record of your critical emails outside Gmail. Use it as a geeky email bookmark.

Gmail Message ID Finder is a Chrome extension that can help you locate the message ID for a Gmail email:

  1. Install the Gmail Message ID Finder extension.
  2. Open Gmail and find the message you want the ID for. Expand the dropdown button next to the Reply arrow.
  3. Click the Copy message ID option that has been added by the extension. The message ID is copied to the clipboard.
  4. To search for the email, paste the number in Gmail’s search box and your email will come up in the results.

You can use this number in any document that needs to refer back to the email. It is a long mind-numbing alpha-numeric string, for example:

rfc822msgid:51c6d69760513a5e5e4f75b29.6941197347.20180417120742.ddde91880a.5fccd3bd@mail8.atl31.mcdlv.net

As the video above shows, you can keep a running record of important emails in a spreadsheet. If you are working on a long project, the Gmail message ID can save you a lot of time if you need to refer to an old email. Do note that the ID is specific to your email account so only you can use it.

  5. As you can see, four options are offered to you. Select one of the options to control the visibility of your email address.
    Choose one privacy setting
Only you will hide your email address from everyone.
1st-degree connections will allow only your direct connections to view your email address (this is the default setting).
1st and 2nd-degree connections will allow your direct connections, and also their direct connections to see your email address.
Everyone on LinkedIn allows everyone on LinkedIn to view your email address.
  6. All changes are automatically saved.

Remember, beyond this setting, your email address is also visible to people who are your email contacts. So, if you like to maintain some degree of privacy (or open it up for greater networking), then this is one setting you can change immediately.

Inviting G Suite Admins to the Gmail Party

Google has sent out an email to G Suite administrators pre-warning them a new version of Gmail is in the works. The redesign will be officially announced in the coming weeks, with G Suite customers invited to join an Early Adopter Program (EAP).

When the EAP arrives it will introduce “a new design for the Gmail web interface, as well as several new features”. Google is telling G Suite administrators about the changes first. However, the changes will also be made available to users with personal Gmail accounts.

Google lists the following features coming to Gmail:

  • A clean look for Gmail on the web.
  • Easy access to G Suite apps.
  • Smart Reply, just like on mobile.
  • The ability to “snooze” emails.
  • Native offline support.

According to TechCrunch, a reader has seen a Google employee testing the new design on public transport. He claims the new design looks like “a hybrid of Gmail and Inbox”. Whether that’s true or not it’s guaranteed to follow Google’s Material Design concept.

Google has promised to share more details on The Keyword and the G Suite Update blog when the EAP opens. We’ll be sure to keep our eyes firmly peeled to find out when the new web version of Gmail is going to be made available to ordinary Gmail users.
